4) Exhibit Production Staff
Immediate openings for Exhibit Production Staff working on the Sailors Speak exhibit at the USS Constitution Museum! The Sailors Speak Exhibition is an NEH-funded project about the lives of sailors aboard USS Constitution in 1812 based upon the prototype exhibit, “A Sailor’s Life For Me?” which is documented at: familylearningforum.org The exhibition will reflect the best possible family learning and scholarly practices. Production staff will assist in the construction and completion of the Sailors Speak exhibition. Duties may include: shop carpentry to build exhibit elements including interactives, graphic design/production ‑ preparing files for printing, and assisting with any additional supplementary activities related to the completion of the Sailors Speak Exhibition. Experience in museum exhibition production preferable; some carpentry or graphic design experience required. Part-time or full-time, seasonal, hourly rate depends on experience. The exhibition will open in May 2009. We are looking for creative team players that can help bring this exciting project to completion. The History Department of Conservators for a new renewable fixed term position to begin on August 17, 2009 in its Program in Maritime Studies, a distinguished graduate program offering the MA in nautical archaeology and maritime history. Completed M.A. is required, and candidates must be certified to dive, at the time of application. The holder of the
position will be responsible for laboratory and field conservation (50%), teaching (40%), and and service (10%).
Specific duties will include teaching courses in conservation techniques and field methodologies, grant and report writing, use of remote sensing apparatus (magnetometer, side scan, ROV, and supporting software including Hypack and ArcView), and conservation laboratory management. On the 23rd of October 2008, the Alexandria University – Egypt announced the inauguration of the Alexandria Centre for Maritime Archaeology & Underwater Cultural Heritage. The Centre is the first of its kind in the Arab Region dedicated to providing education and training at a postgraduate level in aspects of Maritime and Underwater Archaeology.
The creation of the Centre is funded through a grant from the Trans-European mobility scheme for university studies (Tempus), as well as a number of corporations and private donors.
The establishment of the Centre is a collaborative project between eight consortium members from the EU and Egypt fronted by the University of Southampton – UK. In addition to the Alexandria University, the consortium includes the Nautical Archaeology Society – UK, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport – Egypt, the Supreme Council for Antiquities – Egypt, the Centre for Alexandrian Studies – France, the University of Ulster – UK and the Université de Provence – France.
Collectively the consortium members provide the necessary academic, technical and administrative expertise required for the achievement of the centre’s objectives.
The Centre offers a postgraduate Diploma and Master of Arts degrees in Maritime Archaeology and Underwater Cultural Heritage, which aims to provide graduates from different backgrounds with a sound theoretical and
methodological foundation in the investigation, interpretation and management of the maritime and underwater archaeological resource within its wider context.

Museum is located in Wolfeboro, NH. 4) Writing Internship
The USS Constitution Museum is seeking a volunteer or intern interested in carrying out a large-scale writing project in the fall and/or spring of 2008-2009. Using information compiled by Museum researchers, the applicant will craft succinct and engaging biographical profiles of sailors who served on board USS Constitution during the War of 1812. Applicants should have strong writing skills and some familiarity with military or naval history. Knowledge of Microsoft Access is beneficial but not necessary. Schedule is flexible; may be done for credit (at the discretion of the intern’s educational institution); this internship is unpaid.
