2012 Great Lakes Summer Student Fellowships

The Cooperative Institute for Limnology and Ecosystems Research (CILER), located at the University of Michigan, announces the 2012 Great Lakes Summer Student Fellowship Program. The 2012 program is hosted this year by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) in Ann Arbor, MI, and by NOAA’s Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary (TBNMS) in Alpena, MI.  This summer fellowship program provides students with a broad range of fields and an exciting opportunity to conduct research in the Great Lakes Region under the mentorship of an individual scientist or professional.

1) Education and Outreach Specialist, Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary

Candidates should have a strong interest in one or more of the following areas: maritime heritage, environmental education, public interpretation.  Candidates should be comfortable speaking in public to diverse audiences.

2) Communications and Outreach Specialist, Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary

Candidates should have a strong interest in maritime history\archaeology and Great Lakes science.  Demonstrated training or experience in journalism and/or communications preferred.
